Summary:

• Supervises/runs a survey crew for design, mapping, and construction at the Soo Locks project.
• Organizes and maintains field survey crew efficiently in completing specific jobs.
• Accurately calculates and records field data.
• Reviews job specifications and plans field work methods and costs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Directs the field activities of the crew so that work is performed quickly and accurately.
• Knowledge of field survey engineering methods/techniques and survey/GPS instruments.
  • Understands and is able to operate Trimble Total Stations and GPS equipment.
• Performs calculations and works with computer survey programs and AutoCAD and documents all phases of survey work with comprehensive/well-written notes.
• Knowledge of construction plans and specifications.
• Ability to perform higher level mathematical calculations such as algebra and trigonometry.
• Aware of project budgets and cognizant of timing in the field.
• Ability to perform research and prepare survey field packages prior to field work.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Must be physically able to work in the field in various field conditions and travel across rough, uneven surfaces.
• Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to extreme outdoor elements and dust.
• Must have good handwriting skills for preparing field notes and related project documents.
• Must possess a High School diploma
  • Two or more years of college or technical training within the surveying profession or a Professional Surveyor's license is a plus.
• Two (2) years' experience in surveying and one (1) year experience as a Survey Crew Chief required.
• Must have a clean driving record.
