Position Description:

We are looking for a Substation Designer to join our ICE Team to improve infrastructure in our Detroit or Taylor office. The candidate must have a high school diploma or GED and have ten or more years of related experience. An ability to read and prepare drawings from sketches and specifications provided, as well as familiarity with design parameters related to the utility industry is required. Candidate must be proficient in Autodesk AutoCad, Autodesk Revit, and/or Microstation. Extensive knowledge of engineering design theory, principles, and practices is needed, and experience with design work for electrical power, instrument controls and lighting is desirable. The candidate must also be self-motivated, work well with others, and have excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills. A flexible hybrid-remote work schedule is available after 30 days of employment.
Typical responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for interpreting, analyzing, organizing, executing and coordinating new design projects and/or revisions to existing projects of varying scales and complexity
  • Apply engineering principles and procedures while performing engineering design work
  • Work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Follow CAD Standards
  • Perform design calculations as needed
  • Prepare 2D and 3D models, plans, sections, process & instrumentation diagrams, and detail drawings
  • Prepare sheet drawings, create and/or modify base drawings
  • Seek resolutions on non-standard analytical problems
  • Create estimated time requirements for projects
  • Attend project-specific meetings to determine CAD schedules and requirements
  • Verify field survey notes
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to set up and manage construction drawings
  • Attend meetings as needed
  • Maintain excellent client relations
  • Maintain a safe working environment
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
Skills/Experience:
  • 10 or more years of related experience required
