Job Description

Psychologist - Grand Rapids

The Pain Rehabilitation Program at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital is growing - and we're seeking an outstanding psychologist to join our interdisciplinary team.

Our behaviorally-based outpatient program emphasizes functional restoration using an acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) approach. Our goal is to help improve the lives of people who are coping with chronic pain conditions, including back pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, and other pain issues.

The interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation team consists of psychologists, physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. Each patient typically spends 10-12 weeks in our program, during which they work with the interdisciplinary team toward a common goal of improving functioning despite chronic pain. All team members engage in active collaboration, including formal and informal meetings regarding patient treatment.

With a focus on positive outcomes through evidence-based practice and the delivery of quality clinical care, we collect information using multiple tools throughout the course of a patient's care. Our data indicate that patients who complete the program, on average, report significantly decreased pain-related impairment, improved quality of life, reduced depression and anxiety symptoms, decreased pain catastrophizing, and improved pain acceptance and self-efficacy. Program data also shows significantly decreased opioid pain medication use.
