Job Summary
Fishbeck is seeking an Environmental Due Diligence Specialist with experience as a project manager overseeing and performing remediation projects, site assessments, baseline environmental assessments, Phase I and II environmental site assessments (ESAs), and due care plan development. Fishbeck consultants are the face of the organization, building and maintaining meaningful business relationships with clients and regulatory agency employees. Opportunity to work from one of many Fishbeck offices, including Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Traverse City, Ann Arbor, Lansing, or Novi.
Primary Functions
  • Oversee and perform environmental due diligence projects including standard or customized Phase I ESAs consistent with ASTM standards.
  • Prepare and submit reports that assess potential environmental liability risk.
  • Plan, lead, and investigate Phase II ESAs, including field work and sampling activities.
  • Manage multiple projects staying within scope, budget, and/or schedule expectations while ensuring quality standards on all deliverables.
  • Communicate with clients, staff members, and vendors.
  • Opportunity to work collaboratively on Brownfield Redevelopment projects and across department lines with other remediation and environmental compliance projects.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Common office tasks involve sitting, standing, walking, using a personal computer, and communicating verbally. Most work is conducted indoors with occasional project site visits. Lifting up to 50 pounds, maneuvering outdoors, and using sample collection tools is necessary at times. Must be able to drive vehicle to project sites to conduct investigations and meet with clients. Visual acuity necessary to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education/Licensure
Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, geology, or related field.
Desired Skills/Experience
  • 5+ years of experience with due diligence projects. Experience with or exposure to managing projects from start to finish.
  • Experience conducting Phase I and II ESAs following ASTM standards.
  • Understanding of core business practices and legal concepts of business transactions.
  • Working knowledge of Michigan environmental regulations and requirements. Work with federal programs and other states a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills associated with technical reports.
  • Familiarity with potential grant and other funding sources for redevelopment projects.
  • State of Michigan accredited Asbestos Building Inspector or experience identifying, sampling, and inspecting asbestos building materials a plus.
