Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of a Radiologist, specializes in the performance of diagnostic ultrasound procedures to aid in the evaluation of pathological entities as prescribed by a physician. Performs related functions according to department protocols. Utilizes independent judgment in determining appropriate imaging techniques, patient positioning, and safety practices.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Explains examination procedure to patients and prepares patient for the examination.

* Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary.

* Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies.

* Prepares prescribed contrast media and solutions for administration to patients.

* Reviews clinical data on requisition, analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment and, following protocols, and performs the procedure.

* Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information for the area of the body being studied.

* May assist Radiologist in performing diagnostic invasive procedures.

* Prepares and sets up sterile equipment, physiological monitors, pressure injectors, and imaging equipment required for the procedure.

* Demonstrates on a consistent basis Team member standards of excellence including: AIDET, open communication, responding in a timely manner, displaying a positive attitude, fostering innovation, respecting diversity, etc.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

* High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.

* Must be registered (or registry eligible) with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). If registry eligible, registry must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire. Failure to obtain registry within the designated time-frame will result in termination of the Ultrasound Technologist position.

* Must maintain required hours of continued medical education.

* Healthcare Provider certification required (BCLS).
