The Technical Service & Development (TS&D) Engineer may be a remote role; ideally be based in the Southeastern United States or located near the Midland, Michigan R&D Laboratory. This role requires 30% travel to customer sites and Trinseo facilities.


The TS&D Engineer acts as a technology & innovation bridge between the customers and Trinseo Plastics Solutions for its polymers ABS, PC and Compounds & Blends thereof. This job has a 2 component role : "TS" to build customer intimacy and "D" to develop and implement new products or qualify existing materials into new applications. The role's primary focus is product and application development for the industrial market based on extrusion/thermoforming plastics processing technology, which include building & construction, utility & leisure vehicles, and consumer goods. Secondarily, technical support and product implementation for the Automotive market is also part of the job.

The job will require you to apply your knowledge of polymers and polymer fabrication technologies on a daily basis. As a member of Trinseo Plastics Solutions TS&D organization, you will lead specific development projects, requiring interaction with R&D Centers of Excellence in the U.S., Europe and Asia. You will need to work closely with commercial, manufacturing, supply chain, and other functions within Trinseo, with direct technical responsibility for a defined group of customers.

Responsibilities

As the technical interface with customers, the role has a strong product and application development focus, with additional responsibilities for ensuring product quality meets customer needs, with responsibilities including:

    Identifying and understanding the end use application needs.
  • Identifying project opportunities, based on customer and market needs.
  • Translating identified needs into product and application development opportunities.
  • Developing and implementing new sustainable products, applications and fabrication technologies.
  • Development projects to resolve critical quality issues.
  • Developing an understanding the competitive position.
  • Supporting existing business.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years experience in plastics development, with a working knowledge of DOE and statistical analysis
  • 5+ years experience in polymer processing, especially in extrusion and injection molding and / or compounding.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering, Chemistry or related field.
  • Knowledge of polymers and/or polymer fabrication technologies, gained through a university level education in Polymer Material Science, Fabrication Technology or Engineering, or closely related fields.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as strong presentation and organizational skills are essential. A working knowledge of Spanish would also be helpful.
  • Mobile and able to travel, within North America and Mexico, up to 30%.
