Age Specific Responsibility

Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

Summary

The registered professional nurse is responsible for utilizing job skills to effective carry out the nursing process: including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, evaluation, documentation and time management. She/he is responsible for quality communication, teamwork and leadership/professionalism. Also directs, coordinates and implements patient teaching, quality/safety initiatives, and activities of other health team personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Essential Job Responsibilities

* Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by Federal and State laws and regulations.

* A Registered Nurse I (RN I) is responsible for the care of the population they are assigned.

* A RN Iis required to complete yearly mandatory competencies, any unit specific competencies that are identified by the Director/Designee as it relates to the patient population of their unit as well as completion of the Professional Practice Ladder requirements which include: Assuming responsibility as Charge Nurse, PI Activity and department initiatives, communicates and shares information to Director/Designee and co-workers from unit or hospital committee, a MFB paid Education, Seminar/Conference, workshop or Nursing Article.

* Routinely solicits and validates patient/family satisfaction, participates in peer review for unit and develops bulletin board or poster that provides educational information to staff/patients/family members.

* Makes sure to understand every safety practice expected by the organization.

* Takes no shortcuts that increase the risks of accidents, personal injuries or equipment failures.

* Looks for unsafe practices in the workplace and takes responsibility to ensure that others are aware of the potential impact

* communicates effectively and appropriately.

* Uses good judgment as to what to communicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished.

* Speaks in a clear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience.

* Listens to others and allows them to make their point.

Customer Service Responsibilities

Demonstrate excellent customer service and standards of behaviors as well as encourages, coaches, and monitors the same in team members. This individual should consistently promote teamwork and direct communication with co-workers and deal discretely and sensitively with confidential information.

Responsibilities in Quality Improvement

Contribute by identifying problems and seeking solutions. Promote patient/family satisfaction where possible; participates in departmental efforts to monitor and report customer service.

Essential Job Qualifications

* Associates, Nursing (RN diploma, ASN, or ADN)

* RN License - Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a: Multi-state License, under the Nurse Licensure Compact, OR Single-State License, Valid in Virginia Only

* BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved

* Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital

Preferred Job Qualifications

* Newly hired registered nurses holding a nursing diploma, ASN or ADN (associate's degree in nursing) will sign an agreement to enroll in a BSN (bachelor's degree in nursing) program within TWO (2) years of the employment start date and complete the BSN within FIVE (5) years of their employment start date.
