GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager/Nursing Director, in collaboration with the Medical Chairman and the Administrator, provides clinical support I the emergency department to produce optimal productivity with maximally time efficiency and a satisfying experience for emergency patients. This is accomplished by the Clinical Coordinator by the continuous overview of the demand-response status of all work groups and care areas and the continuous redirection, and redeployment of resources as required. This includes but not limited to: assisting with coordinating patient throughout (triage, placement in rooms/areas, diagnostic, treatment, dispositions) and ensuring completion of clinical tasks and movement of patients throughout the emergency department. Coaches staff in clinical critical thinking and customer service skills.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assesses issues related to emergency care and staffing throughout the emergency department by making rounds.
2. Identifies and initiates action to redeploy staff or redirect clerical, nursing, and medical staff as indicated by volume/acuity. Determines need based on volume
need to adjust staffing. Completes nursing assignments and ensures that ETR's are completed.
3. Assesses status of support services (pathology, diagnostics, admitting, and security) and reports issues to appropriate manager/designee of area to resolve.
4. Assesses status of environment and equipment/supplies and reports issues to appropriate manager/designee of area to resolve.
5. Assesses status of patient assessment, treatment and disposition activities, and initiates action to resolve issues with timeliness and completion of activity. Collaborates with IPD Nursing Supervisor/ATMO for movement of admitted patients.
6. Recognizes and resolves immediate situations that jeopardize patient issues.
7. Approves and monitors additional staff (contingents or overtime) based on need. Additionally will assess and cancel contingents/overtime if volume does not support need.
8. Investigates patient complaints/quality issues/narcotic discrepancies and ensures completion of appropriate documentation and notification as indicated.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
* Two years emergency department experience in HFH Emergency Department
* Previous charge nurse/leadership experience preferred
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Current Michigan Nursing License, current ACLS, TNCC and ENPC.
