Job Description

Ferrous Processing and Trading, a business of Cleveland-Cliffs Steel, has an immediate opportunity for a Welder at our Detroit, MI, operation. The welder is responsible for repairs, fabricating, and assembling custom-designed equipment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes
  • Read blueprints and drawings
  • Take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
  • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
  • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes;
  • Handle all preventative maintenance on roll-off boxes;
  • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes;
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding;
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
  • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structures to discover flaws
  • Proficiency with basic machine tools
  • Maintain equipment that does not compromise safety while fully complying with approved safety regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 3-5 years of welding experience
  • Strong math skills and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings, pneumatic and electric engineering drawings are a plus
  • Must be able to pass a hands-on welding test
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs
  • Pre-Employment background, physical, and hair drug screen required
