Job Description

Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist II will be responsible for maintaining and preparing the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, and making appropriate responses as needed. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and protocols. May serve as a preceptor as needed.


Essential Functions

  • Provides sterile instruments and supplies during the surgical procedure.
  • Performs surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
  • Creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment.
  • Prepares case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions for each surgical
  • case.
  • Assists in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintains a protective position throughout the case.
  • Works proactively with physicians to submit preference card changes to align specialties.
  • Suggests instrument set changes to EMI and works with SPD identifying instruments sets that need to be worked on.
  • Actively engages in case costing by talking with surgeons regarding product usage, connects with EMIs to make cost saving suggestions, assesses product usage and advises on waste minimization and elimination.
  • May act as a preceptor to other clinical team members as directed.

Qualifications
  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required Associate's Degree or equivalent Completion of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or equivalent training program (military, etc.) Not all schools require an associate degree. Or 1 year of equivalent experience.
  • 1 year of relevant experience Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience (Clinical rotations do count as experience) Preferred
  • CRT-Basic Life Support Instructor (BLS INSTR) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
