Job Summary:

The Sr. Category Manager is responsible for developing actionable insight-based recommendations to customers and field sales partners that seek to drive mutual category and company growth. This position will play a crucial role in delivering results by analyzing market trends, developing category strategies, and creating compelling storytelling that will help advance strong customer partnerships. The span of responsibility will include Walmart and Sam's Club, owning category analysis and insights that result in strategic and tactical proposals. As part of this responsibility, the Sr. Category Manager will be working cross-functionally with Sales, Sales Strategy, Brand, and Demand Planning to ensure an organizational depth of knowledge of category and competition. This is a remote role (work from home) based in Bentonville, AR area.

Job Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Category Performance and Strategy
    • Conduct analysis of category and competition to identify growth opportunities and areas of improvement
    • Provide strategic category thought leadership and insights to sales leadership, field sales partners and sales strategy team
    • Aid in the development and implementation of 4P strategies by providing data driven recommendations around shelf placement, product assortment, and new item rate of sale
    • Identify key drivers and barriers to category growth and formulate actionable recommendations.
    • Conduct regular category reviews to understand assortment efficiency, pricing dynamics, and promotional effectiveness.

  • Category Insights & Storytelling
    • Leverage a diverse set of data and research, to find relevant and actionable insights that influences the development of organizational strategy
    • Develop compelling sell stories that advance customer relationships and category growth
    • Provide guidance and recommendations to sales teams for effective customer presentations and joint business planning initiatives.

  • Stakeholder Partnership
    • Earn the trust of the customer by providing fact-based, actionable insights and recommendations that help achieve category goals and objectives
    • Support the field sales teams in understanding category, competitive, and brand dynamics that impact their scope of responsibility
    • Collaborate with the Marketing and Insights teams to develop a learning plan that enables successful sell-in of category initiatives

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or equivalent required. MBA preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in Category Management; 5 - 8 years of Consumer Goodsexperience
  • Proven experience in data analysis, project management, and working with Walmart
  • Experience using and interpreting syndicated data (IRI/Nielsen)

SKILLS

  • Advanced ability to independently look beyond the category for macro trends and insights, manipulate data, and create sell stories
  • Ability to lead projects with minimal guidance
  • Demonstrated sales and/or analytical experience managing multiple priorities
  • Strong collaboration and personal interaction skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Retail Link
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be proficient in IRI scan and panel data; Space Planning a plus

PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day
  • Must be willing to travel 10%
