PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
Responsible for the EDI process (supporting, processing and delivery) of healthcare client data in an 837 and 834 format within deadlines, compliant with business expectations, federal regulations and service level agreements.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBLITIES:
(Include the following; other duties may be assigned)
- Overall coordination and support of all internal Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) objectives and tasks.
- Process client data files according to Healthcare business standards and deliver per client contracts and deadlines.
- Develop/write, implement, maintain, support and troubleshoot 837 and 834 readers and conversion tools, including responsibility for testing and bug fixing.
- Customize EDIFECS mappings.
- Establish, document, and maintain EDI procedures. Tasks include identifying errors and taking corrective action, reconciling EDI transactions through coordinating information with internal and external customers, and working closely with internal departments and external vendors to maintain EDI integrity.
- Create and maintain Implementation Guides as well as procedural and process documentation for EDI for the 837 and 834 formats.
- Monitor utilization and performance of data conversion tools; taking action when necessary.
- Monitor daily EDI 837 and 834 processes and perform troubleshooting, restart and recovery actions as necessary.
- Document successful completion of EDI processes, document and interpret error messages received and resolve issues.
- Troubleshoot and facilitate the resolution of any identified data file transmission and transaction errors including verification that all communication links and interfaces are working correctly and communicating appropriately.
- Work with Data Managers, the Data Acquisition Team and others as appropriate to optimize client data flow and processing.
- Communicate and coordinate activities with appropriate teams and other business partners for EDI projects.
- Coordinate and assist with new EDI processes such as transitioning existing clients to an 837 or 834 submission format and assisting with creation of specifications and requirements.
- Work with Client Experience team to drive user adoption and troubleshoot user errors or other issues.
- Support all aspects of the 837 and 834 format and maintain regular contact with management and staff to ensure goals are met and issues communicated and resolved.
- Conduct regular audits of EDI transactions to determine accuracy and areas for improvement; maintain EDI maps and business rules for HIPAA validation software.
- Communicate with Healthcare business to proactively manage deliverables and priorities.
- Create and maintain training manuals and perform training activities for other team members on EDI 837 and 834 processes, including the readers and conversion tools.
- Maintain daily focus on achieving and exceeding team and business goals.
QualificationsREQUIREMENTS:
This position requires a mix of technical knowledge, analytical ability, clear written and verbal communication skills, and an understanding of system processes and production work flows. A deep understanding of HIPAA requirements, EDI, the 837 and 834 formats, and general system troubleshooting processes from problem notification through resolution is required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a technology discipline and 2 years of related business experience or 5 years of related (HIPAA EDI) business experience.
- 4-5 years experience in the field of EDI and processing significant amounts of information with high levels of accuracy.
- Proven experience in HIPAA EDI 837 and 834 Professional and Institutional file structures and guidelines and health insurance concepts is required.
- Ability to understand specific client requirements and develop/interpret business rules to accurately complete tasks.
- Strong communication, research, analysis, and technical skills with the ability to guide complex tasks to timely completion.
TECHINCAL SKILLS
- Significant experience with ANSI X12N translations that are HIPAA mandated (i.e. 837 and 834)
- Background in UNIX/LINUX
- 2 years experience programming; and ability to provide technical support leadership.
- Some experience with PERL, JAVA, C , .net, and Web Sphere.
- Excellent working knowledge of / proficiency in Windows XP and Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel; Access knowledge is a plus.

- Working knowledge of EDI data translators and validation support is required
- Written and oral communication skills are required to document and appropriately distribute information regarding EDI requirements, issues, and resolutions to all levels of staff.
- Ability to prioritize tasks while working in a fast paced environment; must be flexible in managing multiple accounts with unique requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to analyze and formulate solutions to complex business and/or technical problems.
- Excellent organizational skills; strong attention to detail, willingness to learn and methodical about following procedures.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as a member of a team with the ability to follow a pre-defined process and work under minimal supervision.
- Strong customer focus; capable of setting and managing customer expectations without sacrificing client commitments.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deliverables simultaneously with the ability to adapt to change easily and function in a deadline driven environment. Task oriented and committed to task completion within expected timeframes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate well within all levels of the organization as well as the ability to document existing business processes, user processes and business models.
