The Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters provides insights -- information, benchmarks and analysis -- that enable organizations to manage costs, improve performance and enhance the quality of healthcare.
Position Summary
Work closely with the customer, the Thomson Healthcare customer team, and other customer contractors to design, develop, test, optimize, document and evolve database solutions that integrate Thomson Healthcare's products into existing or emerging enterprise data warehouses.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with customer staff to design, develop, test, optimize, document and evolve database solutions that integrate Medstat products into the customer's existing or emerging enterprise data warehouse.
  • Identify best practices for promoting superior query performance, and advise database developers on the use of efficient SQL query patterns to interact with the database.
  • Develop in-house competencies in the area of Virtual Data Marts.
  • Consult with customer technical and business staff on physical database design and construction.
  • Work within industry and customer-defined standards.
  • Deliver work products on time, fit for use and within budget.
  • Support the development of data enhancement specifications, and help present these to the customer.
  • Support the design, development, testing, optimization, execution, documentation and maintenance of software modules related to ETL (extract, transform, load) and other data movement using SQL scripts, SQL stored procedures, and/or ETL tools.
  • Assist with monitoring and tuning the performance of ETL modules and Medstat database applications in the customer's data warehouse environment.
  • Assist with installing and configuring Thomson's database solutions at the customer site.
  • Assist with testing upgrades of Thomson's products in the customer's data warehouse environment.



Qualifications
  • Master's degree in computer science, math, or engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with at least one major RDBMS such as Teradata (preferred), Oracle 9i/10g, DB2 UDB, Sybase Adaptive Server, Sybase IQ, or SQL Server 2000/2005.
  • Experience with data modeling techniques such as normal form and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience with very large databases (at least in the hundreds of Gigabytes in size).
  • Experience with physical data modeling techniques, including the use of indexes, materialized views, system aggregates, etc.
  • Experience with query optimization techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with good ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and complete work within allocated time frames.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Experience with healthcare claims databases.
