Position Description

Position Title: Coordinator - Livingston Extension Center (Part-Time, Regular)
Employee Group: Non-Union

Compensation

Starting range: $15.11/hr to $19.21/hr. No benefits.

Position Summary

The purpose of the Livingston Center is to identify and offer customized training, credit classes and other non-credit class offerings to meet the needs of Livingston County businesses and residents. The Coordinator position exists primarily to assist the Site Manager (SM) with the day-today operation of the M-TEC so the Site Manager can devote more time in developing business relationships within the community and be responsive to their needs. This Coordinator position has multiple operational responsibilities that will assist the SM with the management, supervision, and delivery of internal services of the site. In general, the purpose is to ensure a successful cooperation and communication between the programs offered and internal and external customers. The Coordinator position allows for the center to operate during regularly scheduled hours and weekend events. The Coordinator is expected to exhibit initiative, enthusiasm flexibility and teamwork in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position.

Hours/Schedule:

Up to 19 hours per week. Scheduled hours will vary and regularly include weekend and/or evening hours. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of this position including but not limited to accommodating facility rentals, deadlines, presentations, and meeting schedules.

Livingston Regional Michigan Technical Education Center (M-TEC) in Howell, MI

Minimum Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent plus additional training in a technical or business content area.
  2. Over one year of experience in a business/industry or post-secondary education position involving project management, management, program development, etc.
  3. Over one (1) year of experience in providing service to students. Experience may be concurrent with #2.
  4. Over one (1) year of direct marketing and/or telemarketing experience. Maintaining and developing web and print based marketing materials, contacting customers by phone. Experience may be concurrent with above experience requirements.
  5. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to adapt to change in a growing environment servicing diverse traditional and non-traditional students.
  6. Evidence of effective use of computer technology. Demonstrated MS Word and Excel proficiency at the intermediate level and MS PowerPoint at the basic level. Knowledge of Publisher.
  7. Strong written communication skills, including drafts of policies, brochures, handbooks, letters to students, summaries of projects, and sections of the site catalog.
  8. Strong, tactful, courteous, and diplomatic verbal and non-verbal communication skills expressed through daily interaction with a diverse population, staff, business and industry representatives, and community members.
  9. Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage time and prioritize.
  10. Minimum mathematical skills necessary for this position include the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
  11. Requires the ability to work on several projects simultaneously.
  12. Flexibility to accommodate the changing nature of business, industry, and educational partners.
  13. Requires the ability to work with constant interruptions.
  14. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information such as competing manufacturer's data, student data and credit card information.
  15. Ability to address difficult matters with walk-ins, clientele for leaseholders, leasers. Ability to address problems in a tactful, sensitive, and calm manner.
  16. Ability to analyze and meet customer needs when developing proposals and contracts considering pricing, supplies, room logistics, and faculty schedules, etc.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience in an MTEC or Community Education environment.
  2. Experience establishing positive working relations with other offices, divisions and organizations.
  3. Professional experience with area educational groups.
  4. Experience with online deliverables and classroom management systems such as EMS.
  5. Knowledge of institutional, federal and state financial aid programs, state and federal workforce development grants, processes and regulations.
  6. Experience reading, working with, and reporting budgetary and financial numbers.
  7. Experience speaking in front of an audience and making presentations.
  8. Datatel and Cognos experience.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions/Hours

Physical Requirements:

  1. Requires frequent standing, squatting bending stooping, walking, and sitting.
  2. With or without accommodation, the employee in this position needs to move about and position him/herself to access files and operate office productivity machines up to 100% of the time.
  3. The employee must be able to work at a desk for long periods of time and operate a computer workstation and telephone.
  4. It is necessary to communicate both in person and over the telephone with a large variety of people each day including area officials, students, and business representatives. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  5. It is also essential to occasionally move equipment or transport up to 50 pounds.
  6. This position works in a normal office environment but is occasionally exposed to manufacturing and other technical environments.
  7. The employee must, with or without accommodation, have the ability to detect information on a computer screen, for example checking email or creating spreadsheets.
